Equality and Diversity

The General Social Care Council (GSCC) values inclusiveness and is committed to embedding equality and diversity at the heart of our work.  We aim to be an inclusive organisation where individual differences are respected, where staff, people who use services, their families and carers, are treated with dignity and on the basis of their merits, abilities and needs, and where everyone has a fair opportunity to fulfill their potential without suffering discrimination or disadvantage.

Involvement of people who use services and carers is a key theme of our work at the GSCC, supporting these values and practices is our published strategy ‘Seen and Heard’.

We’re now going further and the GSCC’s Single Equality Scheme sets out the approach we will use to embed equality and diversity in everything we do.  The development and delivery of this scheme flows from the GSCC’s Equality and Diversity Strategy.

It is a statement of our strong commitment and approach to equality and diversity for people from different groups whether they work for us or use our services.  The scheme provides the framework for promoting equality throughout the GSCC and will make a positive and lasting difference to the experiences of our staff, stakeholders and people who use services.

As a public body, the GSCC recognises that we have clear obligations to fulfill under legislation and this scheme sets out these duties, in particular in respect of gender, disability and race equality.  We aim to take into account the needs and views of all different groups in the development, delivery and improvement of our services and this scheme therefore includes our approach to equality issues for people of different ages, religions or religious beliefs and sexual orientation.

We recognise that our Single Equality Scheme is more powerful with input from our employees, people who use services and their families.  We welcome your views and comments on our services and would like to hear how you think we could make things better for people in our workplace and through our service provision.
