Summary
The annual monitoring assessment for Thames Valley University social work degree courses found that they are not able to show they are meeting the requirements for employer engagement in the education and training process, particularly that employers are not involved in the selection of students for the course. The GSCC has also recently received a number of concerns about the delayed allocation of students to practice learning placements.
Taken together these concerns are considered serious enough for the GSCC to open a preliminary investigation into the delivery of the courses to find out whether these specific requirements are not being met and if this is the case how the university intends to address this. A first visit has taken place and the University is required to submit a full response to the questions raised by 2nd July 2010. The GSCC will publish the report on the outcome of this investigation once it is complete.
