For course providers
In order to offer the social work degree in England, universities must apply for course approval with the General Social Care Council. Click here for more information on the approval process, and other relevant documents.
Through inspection and regulation, the General Social Care Council quality assures social work education and training. The Council produces a yearly report on the performance of course providers. You can find copies of theĀ Annual quality-assurance report here.
The General Social Care Council provides funding to support universities and colleges who provide approved social work education and training. Information on the type of funding available is available in this section.
To ensure that the inspection of course providers is fair and accurate, a system of external scrutiny is in place. This means that external assessors and examiners take part in the quality-assurance process for all social work education courses, providing advice and guidance. Further information on these arrangements is available from this page.
