Ensuring course quality
The GSCC carries out checks on all social work education in England to ensure that it is good quality and that it is consistent with our requirements. This is done through a process of quality-assurance (QA)
The main elements of the QA criteria and processes relating to GSCC awards are set out in the Assuring Quality set of publications.
All universities and colleges providing social work courses, whether qualifying or post-qualifying, complete an annual monitoring return as part of our QA process. We also ask them to provide us with other information from their own internal quality monitoring each year. We review and analyse this information, gathering statistics and forming an overview of social work education. We put this into a final report every year, the Social Work Education Quality Assurance Report (SWEQAR), which is submitted to the Minister responsible for social care at the Department of Health. This report also influences our priorities and actions for the coming year.
