Interest in the General Social Care Council’s third annual conference ‘Raising standards: protecting people’ has proved so popular, delegate spaces have been filled in record time.
A strong line up of speakers including Dr Stephen Ladyman MP Minister for Community, Margaret Hodge MBE MP Minister for Children and GSCC Chief Executive Lynne Berry will join delegates and the GSCC team at the conference, scheduled for 24 November at the Queen Elizabeth II Centre in Westminster. The full day event will also include a panel discussion and a selection of workshops for delegates to attend.
Rodney Brooke, GSCC Chair said: “It great to see key Ministers and other important stakeholders agreeing to speak at the conference. It shows the shared commitment to developing a trained and trusted social care workforce, whether with adults or children.”
Conference invites were sent to a wide range of stakeholders and as pioneers of the social work profession, a third of the places were reserved for Registered Social Workers (RSWs).
Lynne Berry, GSCC Chief Executive said: “We’re astounded by the numbers of RSWs who are interested in attending the conference. It’s a real sign of the commitment and professionalism of the social work workforce.”
The conference will look at the work of the GSCC, and our role in raising standards through regulation and registration. Speakers on the panel include:
- Margaret Hodge MBE MP, Minister for Children, Families and Young People
- Anthony Sheehan, Director of Care Services, Department of Health
- Nasa Begum, Principal Adviser of Participation, SCIE
- Tony Hunter, President, ADSS
- Lynne Berry, Chief Executive, GSCC
In the afternoon, delegates have the choice of attending four different workshops on topics such as the implementation of the codes of practice, protection of title, post-registration training and learning, and skills for social care workers.
For those who have not been able to secure a delegate space, the GSCC will keep your details on file for next year. We’re also happy to forward any delegate material or speaking notes.
