23/06/2006

The General Social Care Council (GSCC), the workforce regulator for social care in England has today (23 June) welcomed the appointment of David Behan as the Department of Health’s first Director-General for Social Care.

Lynne Berry, GSSC Chief Executive said:

“I am absolutely delighted that the Department of Health has recognised the importance of social care by creating this new leadership role. The growing importance that the Government is placing on social care is evident in the recent White Paper, ‘Our health, our care, our say’, and the creation of this role is a welcome step towards ensuring social care is well represented at the highest level.

“David Behan will continue to be a great champion for the sector and the GSCC would like to congratulate him on his appointment.”
