GSCC welcomes ‘No More Blame Game – The Future for Children’s Social Workers’  report from the Conservative Party

17/10/2007

The General Social Care Council (GSCC) has welcomed the Conservative Party’s report, ‘No More Blame Game – The Future for Children’s Social Workers’, and the recognition it gives to the vital role that social workers play in supporting vulnerable children and families.

Sir Rodney Brooke, Chair of the GSCC, said:
“This is a useful addition to the debate on how we improve the status of a profession that deals with some of society’s most intractable problems.

“We share the Commission’s view that social work should remain a single profession trained to deal with the variety of situations that may impact on an individual or family. It also raises important concerns about the quality of continued learning and the supervision that some social workers receive.

“I am pleased the Report recognises the value of the statement that we are about to publish, clarifying the roles and tasks of social workers, which we hope will also help to give the profession the confidence and recognition it deserves.”
