GSCC welcomes ‘Maintaining Standards: Promoting Equality’ report from the Disability Rights Commission

14/09/2007

The General Social Care Council (GSCC) has welcomed the Disability Rights Commission’s (DRC) report, ‘Maintaining Standards: Promoting Equality’.

Sir Rodney Brooke, Chair of the GSCC, said:
“We welcome the clarity this report brings to the debate about maintaining professional standards. It is right for an individual’s health issues to be managed in the workplace, rather than calling on the workforce regulator to take decisions on behalf of an employer.

“The Code of Practice for Social Care Workers sets out the standards of professional conduct and practice required of social care workers as they go about their daily work. This includes an individual’s responsibility to inform their employer about any personal difficulties that might affect their ability to do their job competently and safely.”
