GSCC comments on guidance for workers on personalised care

01/05/2008

Commenting on today’s announcement of Common Core Principles to support self care, Mike Wardle, Chief Executive of the General Social Care Council (GSCC), commented:

“We welcome the Common Core Principles which will be valuable for those working in social care as they move towards offering tailored services to people. It is vital that these principles are built into the education and training of social workers and we look forward to working with the relevant organisations to ensure this happens.

Personalisation applies and extends the principles of good social work – helping people find individual solutions to their situations and achieve the outcomes they want. However, it also begs significant questions about what we expect from both social workers and social care workers. Today’s guidance is a start in outlining how their roles might change and we look forward to hearing more from the Minister about this at our conference next week.”

Ivan Lewis MP will deliver the keynote speech at the GSCC’s annual conference next Tuesday (6 May). Called ‘Making Social Care Work’, the conference will look at the major reforms to the sector and the impact on the workforce. Over 500 social workers, social care workers and others from the sector will attend.
