Social worker conduct hearing scheduled

27/02/2008

A hearing into the conduct of a Registered Social Worker will be held from 4 - 6 March by the social care workforce regulator for England, the General Social Care Council (GSCC).

The social worker is alleged to have committed misconduct by engaging in an inappropriate personal relationship with a person who uses services and failing to reveal to his employer the nature and extent of the relationship. He is also alleged to have failed to inform the GSCC of changes to his employment and address, a requirement of being a Registered Social Worker.

The allegations constitute a breach of the profession’s Code of Practice which all social workers agree to abide by when they register with the GSCC. Action can be taken if a social worker is found to have breached the Code of Practice, including removal from the register. You must be registered with the GSCC in order to work as a social worker.

The hearing will take place before an independent panel of the GSCC – the Conduct Committee.
