The administration of the social work bursary and postgraduate bursary transferred from the GSCC to the NHSBSA in spring 2007. Bursaries are still be available to students as normal; this change was to the service administrator only and not to the terms of the service. We advised current students, universities, other stakeholders and the media of the planned transfer from early March 2007.
This function was transferred after the DH undertook a review of its Arms Length Bodies, of which the GSCC is one, in 2004and decided that all health and social care student bursaries should be administered by one body. The NHSBSA was established in 2006 to undertake a range of administration services for the NHS and social care bodies. It was already the main processing facility for payment, reimbursement, remuneration and reconciliation for NHS patients, employees and other student bursaries.
All bursary enquiries should now be directed to the NHSBSA.
