The General Social Care Council (GSCC) has today launched its new website with a clear focus on engagement with social workers.
The new website incorporates a range of interactive tools to enable the social work regulator to engage effectively with the profession and others in the sector, as part of its work to drive up standards. These include online forums that allow registered users to ask questions, discuss upcoming issues, share comments and provide peer support around regulation related issues. In a recent survey[1] carried out by the GSCC, more than 70 per cent of social workers said they would be interested in using these tools. The GSCC has also this week rolled out activity on external social media channels such as Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter to communicate with interested parties.
Following consultation with social workers, service users, HEIs and employers the site is now easier to navigate with quick links for each group. There is also a new e-bulletin for employers of social workers and HEIs that will be available to sign up to on the new website and will contain important regulatory news and updates from the GSCC.
Despite the government’s intention to transfer the organisation’s functions to the Health Professions Council from 2012, it remains essential that the GSCC communicates effectively with its key audiences up until transfer, particularly given the level of change taking place across the sector. This website is a cost effective means to do that.
Penny Thompson, Chief Executive of the GSCC, said:
“Web and social media has grown in leaps and bounds since our website was first launched. Until now we have used our website to broadcast information but going forward we’d like to utilise it as a cost-effective way to engage and collaborate with social workers.
I am fully committed to listening, and responding, to what social workers have to say and hope they take this opportunity to share their experiences with colleagues and with us. You can read my very first blog entry on our website.”
